On March 26th, St. Mary Academy Bay View was visited by three very interesting Afghan women.  These women came to America in order to learn skills and bring them back to Afghanistan.
Haseena, Selma and Nadia are currently studying at Roger Williams University in Bristol.  They came to Bay View to educate young women today about their culture and customs in Afghanistan and also to learn more about female children and education in America.

Some topics touched were how women and men are not equal but that women are striving for that right gradually. Another interesting topic was how at weddings they have huge cakes, but instead of eating it there, they pass it out as party favors! After Haseena, Selma, and Nadia gave their presentation, the girls here at Bay View answered, to the best of their ability, the questions the women had to ask.
Having Haseena, Selma and Nadia here was an overall immense learning experience for grades 7 and 8 at Bay View.  We would like to thank our teachers Mrs. Grace and Mrs. Vasconcellas for bringing history to us. In addition, a special thank you to Sra. Farmer for arranging the event.
