Lacrosse

Bay View now offers Lacrosse at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Club levels in the Spring Season.  This competitive sport is for the athlete who enjoys a fast moving game, has quick reflexes, good eye-hand coordination and good running ability.

Acheivements:  Last season, our first in RIIL, we were regular season Division II North Co-Champions and finished second in the State Championship.  Six Athletes were named All-Division.

Who May Join:  Varsity and Junior Varsity invite students in grades 9 - 12.  For those students in grades 6 - 12 who are just hoping to learn the game, the Club Team meets on Saturdays for the spring season.  No prior experience is needed, many new athletes will pick up the game quickly and experienced Lacrosse players will find the level of play competitive.

How Do I Join?  Students must have the proper athletic forms on file prior to the start of the season.  Sign-ups will be posted and information regarding tryouts will be readily available.

Practice:  Practice will be held after school, daily, weather permitting, at the Bay View fields or off-campus at the Riverside Recreation Fields, approximately 1 mile from the school off of Willett Avenue in Riverside.  Normal practices will run from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, or if inclement weather, the times may be adjusted to accommodate the use of the Wellness Center.  Carpooling may be necessary for the off-campus practices.

Games:  The Rhode Island Interscholastic League will release a schedule for all Varsity games and the coaches will coordinate any Junior Varsity games if the opposing teams have available Junior Varsity teams.  Most games will begin between 3:45 pm and 4:00 pm and run approximately 65 minutes (two 30 minute halves and a halftime break of 5 minutes).  A bus will be provided for all away games that occur on regularly scheduled school days.

Expenses:  Players are required to purchase the USA Lacrosse approved equipment, including a Lacrosse stick, gloves and goggles.  Mouthpieces are mandatory.  Cleats are suggested for grass fields, turf shoes or track shoes are required for turf fields.  Uniforms are provided by the school.

Coaches:  Joe Kettelle - Head Coach - Bowdoin College, Men's Lacrosse '82.  Kathy Moan - Assistant Coach - Salve Regina, Women's Lacrosse '01.  Steve Colucci - Goalie Coach - LaSalle Academy, Goal Keeper '82.
