The History and Social Sciences Department believes that history incorporated with economics, geography, political science, and psychology, is the study of humankind which enables the student to approach present day challenges with an informed mind. The department seeks to instill within the students a spirit of cooperation that will result in their effective participation in the global community. Its aim is to educate the whole person through social studies curricula with a Judeo-Christian perspective and to integrate these concepts into daily life.

GOALS
Upon completion of the History and Social Sciences Program, the student will be able to:

  • think critically, communicate effectively, and solve problems;
  • demonstrate analytical skills through the process of examining and researching primary and secondary sources;
  • write clearly and effectively within the framework of the curriculum;
  • utilize technology as a research instrument and as a learning device.

The student will know:

  • the connection between the basic knowledge of historical events and their impact on the contemporary world into the new millennium;
  • the various environmental, political, legal, social, and economic factors which shape our world.

Ultimately, the student will:

  • value the habit of making logical moral and ethical decisions in the light of Judeo-Christian principles and which reflect an appreciation of human dignity
  • be sensitive to the attitudes, values, and behaviors of people in multi-cultural societies and in diverse times.
