The Bay View Competition Dance Team competes against other dance teams throughout Rhode Island and New England.  They also perform at Bay View Basketball games and school spirit event.

Who May Join:  Students in grades 9 - 12.

How Do I Join? Dance team tryouts will be held on Wednesday, August 25th and Friday, August 27th  for all students entering grades 9-12. Tryout sessions (both days) will begin at 2:30 pm and will conclude at 4:00 pm in the Athletic Wellness Center. Dancers must attend both sessions in order to be considered for the team. Please wear appropriate dancewear and shoes and wear your hair up. We are looking for enthusiastic dancers (preferably with some studio training) in the areas of hip-hop, jazz and pom to perform at all Bay View basketball home games, Bay View events and dance competitions. ALL REQUIRED ATHLETIC FORMS MUST BE COMPLETE AND ON FILE IN THE BVA ATHLETICS OFFICE BY MAY 17TH OR STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT. Experience:  It is recommend that students are studio trained (even if they are not currently affiliated with a studio).  The team seeks dancers with strong technique and an understanding of the foundation of dance.  Basic drills for flexibility and coordination (kicks, splits, leaps) and a short combination comprise the tryout requirements.

Practice:  Members are encouraged, but not required, to attend a summer camp/clinic.  During the season, practices are usually held twice per week:  on Wednesdays and Fridays after school, and sometimes before basketball games.  Occasionally, additional or extended practices will be called to prepare for a competition.  Dance Team requires commitment during Fall and Winter sports seasons.  We usually bring in a guest choreographer for our competition routine, and we are looking to host some "master classes" with a professional hip hop teacher this winter.

Competitions:  The team selects 3 - 5 competitions to attend during January through April.
